Every time I say "Bye Bye" to my dad, he gets a little angry and says, "It's goodbye!" I quickly add, "Goodbye~" before he nods in acknowledgment.
It makes me wonder if saying "bye-bye" is a bit too sad, as if saying it means we'll never see each other again. "Goodbye" = "See you," right?
Saying "see you" feels like saying "see you again," and that really eliminates the sadness.
